As our members create their own adventures during an unprecedented year, ACC Manitoba hosted a photo contest to allow our members to showcase their great adventures, and show the resilience of our outdoor community.
A big thank-you to everyone who submitted photos – it’s great to see so many adventures this year! So, here are the winners…
CATEGORY: HIKING
“Hiking at Mount Robson” in Mount Robson Provincial Park, BC. After backpacking to our base camp at Berg Lake, our group made a day trip to the summit of Snowbird Pass. My friend Chris, in photo, is hiking along some boulders along the way up to the pass with the Robson Glacier in the background. PHOTO: MATTHEW GRANT
WHY WE SELECTED THIS PHOTO:
Gorgeous big setting – Matthew captured both stillness and motion, with a composition that nicely blends the palettes and textures of the foreground, background and sky.
Great shot Matthew!
CATEGORY: CLIMBING
Cory McFarlane leading 10% Real (WI5, 60m), a classic line in the Ice Palace loop at Orient Bay, Ontario. Photo taken Jan 2020. PHOTO: BRIAN MCMILLAN
WHY WE SELECTED THIS PHOTO:
Big lead climbs are always attention-grabbing, especially on ice – and with one foot on rock, it’s a mixed climb. Nice half rope placement on natural Canadian Shield ice. Brian did a great job balancing a shot of the climber and the climb.
Great shot Brian, and kudos to Cory as well!

Taken on adventures to Laclu – highlights to me the expectation and excitement of looking at the ice before you climb. It’s full of hope and wonder at the amazing things we get to do. PHOTO: ERICA VEENSTRA
WHY WE SELECTED THIS PHOTO:
Many people would need Photoshop to pull together a shot like this, but not ACC members! Erica not only creatively captured the adventure ahead, but also the sense of anticipation of sending some serious cauliflower!
Well done Erica!
