On July 30, twenty people from the Alpine Club of Canada Manitoba section arrived for a four-night stay at the Elizabeth Parker hut in the Lake O'Hara area of Yoho National Park. I was one of them. For the first time, the club booked the entire hut and there is strong consensus that we need to continue to do so. While there is a lot to be said for having the opportunity to meet other hut residents from around the world, there is something very special about being able to fill the hut with friends from our section.

Our group included two families as well as a couple, an aunt and her niece, and groups of friends. At least three of our group joined the club, just to embark on this trip, but all promised to come back for more. Not everyone knew each other on July 30, but I think we all became friends by the end of the journey. Unfortunately, four people had to cancel just before the start of the trip.

We had an amazing four days. It seemed every day was better than the last. There were many complete Alpine Circuits accomplished, many trips to Lake McArthur, and no one missed experiencing the highlights of the area. An impressive seven people accomplished the challenging hike and scramble to Little Odaray peak. The weather was terrific, the flowers were outstanding, and almost everyone went for a swim in the alpine lakes.

The opportunity to experience the outstanding beauty and remarkable trails, and then return to the cozy, comfortable, and historic hut is a privilege. Truly exceptional!
