ACC-MB Mantario Trip Report – March 2-4th 2019

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

10 ACC Manitoba members skied into the Mantario cabin on March 2nd. We had a sunny day, cold (-20), with a significant tail wind. The ski in was reasonably fast. Trail-breaking on Big Whiteshell, followed by easier skiing on a recent snowmobile trail. We were all tucked in the cabin before 4 o’clock. The sauna was fired, but we could not create a water hole in the lake (too many ice shelves…). We had a great evening, and the stars were amazing!!!!

Kashia led half the group skiing out on Sunday morning. They had a sunny day, with significant headwinds, and cold temps. The remaining 5 were able to have a leisure day around the cabin. Len and I went exploring the Mantario trail on snowshoes, while the rest of the group looked for cliffs on skis. Long sauna sessions, another great dinner, and a lovely evening.

The ski out on Monday morning was blustery, with a constant headwind of 30 kms/hr, gusting to 40. Whiteout on Big Whiteshell. I think we were all quite happy to be off the lake!!!!

Overall, a great weekend, great people and the amazing Mantario cabin.

Claire, Len and Kasia
