The 2017 summer Experience the Mountains trip focused on a more front-country, family-friendly experience, reminiscent of the very first ETMs organized by the Manitoba section. We had four nights reserved at the ACC Boswell Cabin in Canmore, Alberta, followed by two nights of camping at the Lake Louise campground. We had a great turn-out for the ETM, with 10 adults and 7 kids, ranging in age from 10 months to 14 years. Being based out of the Boswell Hut and the Lake Louise Campground allowed for some great day trips to the surrounding area, with folks meeting up some days to do group trips, and other days groups splitting up to do individual trips. Trips during the week for the group included the following:
• Scrambling Big Sister, Kananaskis • Climbing at Wasootch Slabs, Kananaskis • Hiking the Plains of Six Glaciers, Lake Louise • Hiking to & backcountry camping trip at Elbow Lake • Hiking West Wind Pass • Visiting Sunshine Meadows area • Visit to Cave and Basin National Historic Site • Hiking to Takakkaw Falls • Climbing the Back of the Lake, Lake Louise
